How do I make my computer read Japanese language fonts? Right now, my pc views Japanese characters like little square boxes >_< how do I fix that?

I just bought a Nintendo DS LL in Japan, but the menu and settings seem to be exclusively in the Japanese language (or at least I could not find where to change the language). Is there a way I can change it to English? Thanks.

It was my first time going to a performance at a lounge type of setting. Ofcourse it's not like a concert, the thing is when it comes to new york and having to perform in places like a resturant or and Lounge were people relax on a days you'll expect some performances going on too.
